Buy Online, Pick Up In Store
Who knew this would be so important?
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Buy Online, Pick Up In Store, often abbreviated BOPIS, was a bit of an oddity. It seemed like a stopgap measure to lend some viability to brick-and-mortar stores when e-commerce was the future. Now, in some areas it is the only way in which stores can operate. It's absolutely essential.
Fun fact, according to Wikipedia, Bopis is a 'piquant Filipino dish of pork or beef lungs and heart sautéed in tomatoes, chilies and onions.' That's not what we made, but it sounds interesting. Fossil Group's BOPIS integration consisted of IT, UI teams, 3rd party integration, SAP development, Websphere integration, and a number of smaller pieces.
The scope of work consisted of creating visual assets, pages and patterns, hooking to API endpoints, testing, iterating, reconfiguring differently for each locale, and then writing readable, accurate documentation.
