eprouvage - i18n, l10n and some other stuff
Agency work
Working on éprouvage was my first post-military contract. I did a fair amount of dev and design work while in the military on websites, intranet pieces, stuff to autotag photos, things like that. éprouvage was a little different, but not by much. I was initially hired to complete the work of internationalizing and then localizing the content. I was told that another contractor started the project and went about 100 hours over budget, ergo new contractor.
The project was in American English, Canadian English and Canadian French, specifically Quebec French (client did not request Franco-Ontarian, Acadian French, Métis French etc), working in Magento 1.8x. Working in Quebec French is not an issue, as part of my duties in the Coast Guard involved cross-border work between the US and Canada, and I am both linguistically flexible, and have experience working with the Quebec provincial government.
My initial scope consisted of;
- Extract all written content and content with embedded text
- Extract the system i18n .csv files for UI text
- Translate the whole thing
- Create new visual assets for necessaries with embedded text
- Push the content
- Localize and polish
